wardrobes

Wardrobes are generally the key piece of furniture in any bedroom as they often dominate the room.  Other furniture is often covered or concealed by ornaments, photographs and day to day products like jewelery boxes and makeup.  The wardrobe is usually the most clearly visible piece of furniture  so the look and style of it can influence  your whole room.  Fashion can change over the years but the wardrobe in your house can stand the test of time.  A wardrobe will last as long as you want it to,  this depends on how much you are prepared to spend.  If you invest in good quality furniture you will not be disappointed and it will serve you well for years to come.   Alternatively many people spend less on furniture so they can update to keep up with the latest fashions.  Our customers have invariably tried the cheaper route  and found that the cheaper quality products let them down due to bad construction and finishes that do not stand the test of time so they look to us for an alternative which is unique and practical.

Our particular style of antique wardrobes are original and usually between eighty and one hundred years old. Each one being unique as we rarely get two the same apart from a few pairs that have come in over the years.  The wardrobes are all pine as we don’t deal in any other type of wood. All the wardrobes  have been hot caustic stripped to remove years of old paint and kill any wood worm.  When all all the paint or varnish has been removed we can see what sort of repairs are required, hopefully not too many,  as we try to keep all the original features where possible.  Normally the first job is to replace the feet with new ones in a style and shape that matches the wardrobe,  a victorian bun is a good choice. The feet have a dowel so you have to drill a hole in the base to fit them, they can be glued in but if you have a good  fit, leave the glue then you can  remove them later.  I have to change the top cornice sometimes as they get damaged over the years, plus any splits in the panels are glued and clamped. Check the drawer runners for wear and replace them if necessary.  The wardrobe  can be sanded down now if there are no other major repairs and stained down with a water based stain to blend in the repairs ready for waxing.  Locks and keys are also repaired and replaced.

Our wardrobe collection are mainly of a breakdown type with one, two or three doors. The construction is normally fitted together by tongue and groove joints on all the larger parts and dowels on the rest, this allows the wardrobe to be completely disassembled and easily  reassembled in your home.  The joints are held together tightly by a wooden or metal taper on the inside on all four corners which gives a good solid construction.

We endeavour to find the best quality pieces with good lines and age but also good solid craftsmanship when they were fist made, so you get furniture that will  keep its value and stand the test of time

The (UN)-Importance Of Wardrobe In Photography

wardrobes
Sharon Elrod asked:

A perusal of photography internet web sites today reveals conflicting information about models’ wardrobes. Some sites suggest only designer-label fashion is appropriate for professional modeling photography. Others take an additional step and suggest only certain designs work in a given market and season. Some insist wardrobe doesn’t matter at all.

How do you know whom to believe?

We suggest, on a scale of one to ten with ten being high, wardrobe importance falls somewhere below a five. There are several reasons we assign less importance to clothing.

First, whether it’s lifestyle or commercial photography, we work angle and color and light to capture the beauty of the model, not her clothing. Unless the job is for a clothing company or designer, it’s the appealing glow of the model that is the focus of the picture. That appeal communicates to the viewer and, if the shot works, the message is one the photographer designed and intended the viewer to see and hear. If a viewer’s comment focuses on the model’s apparel, we’ve missed the mark.

Second, some models may have the mistaken notion that a certain wardrobe will create her preconceived idea of how she wants to look and be perceived. The ‘look’ and overall trend in fashion today is said to be chic and ladylike. But if every model’s portfolio had the chic and ladylike look, designers would soon come up with another ‘look’ that was ‘current’ and those portfolios would all have to be redone. We suggest using a wardrobe that compliments the model’s look, figure, hair, coloring and her natural beauty, and that communicates the intended message.

Third, consider the unique or unusual more important than wardrobe. One of the most compelling portfolios we created in the past couple of months included the model placed in a large bathtub surrounded by bubbles. We shot her head and face, wet hair messed in delightful disarray around her stunning face. There was no fashion wardrobe in sight. Yet the portfolio is electric and the model’s message was communicated without a wardrobe.

Don’t totally disregard the importance of wardrobe. Fashion is based on designers’ ideas about what will be appealing for the next season. They are the experts. To some extent, designers decide what women will find desirable, and therefore purchase. They tell us what we will like and what we should buy if we want to have the latest wardrobe. However, sometimes the latest fashion looks great on every woman, and sometimes it doesn’t. Know what styles look good on you and keep wardrobe and fashion issues in perspective.

Wardrobe Furniture

wardrobes
Getar asked:

Wardrobes come in different sizes, shapes and color, and it is used in every household also as it is very necessary. It can either be free standing or built in. It can have personal finishes of good carpenters and is highly adorned by art lovers since it can be personalized according to their tastes. You can opt to choose walk-in wardrobes.

Having mentioned all these wardrobes, these also give a variety of problems. The traditional wardrobe furniture, free standing and separate and can either be small or large depending on the choice of the owner. If it is plain and has no other design but carving on the door and has basic compartments like the large space for the hanged clothes in the middle and a shelf up top and a drawer below the common problem would be its door hinges. With its’ constant opening and closing sometimes forcing it to close because of overloaded wardrobes, it tends to loosen the hinges and the door will, if not get stuck, will be difficult to open or close due to the disaligned door. Having to oil your hinges to make it work more smoothly or replacing the hinges with much more sturdy ones will help a lot. The wardrobe can either have a most commonly used lock to keep the door closed or the used magnetic lock.

With keeping up with the future, there are wardrobes that have more design to it than its actual need for its functions. With the convenience of having TV shelves adjustable shelves and baskets, hat compartments, hooks for hats and belts some even have space for small refrigerators to fit in them.

Some wardrobes have more personal touches having mirrors and designed handles, and lots of other things. Of course these individually give different problems as well. For wardrobes with mirrors mostly are placed on the door for practicality or saves space. Of course the door has to be sturdy enough to hold such additional weight and strong hinges especially it covers almost the whole length of the wardrobe door. Keeping it closed is also a problem sometimes if your traditional lock easily breaks or the magnetic lock can’t hold the door weight due to its size. Door handles, especially the ***** on handles gives way most of the time especially the plastic ones and the wooden handles inappropriately too small for the door. Choosing the right door handles in comparison to the weight of the door sliding or not should be well thought of before installation.

For walk-in wardrobes the organization of the compartments has to be in retrospect to the need of the user also considering the orientation of the room. Also making compartments for the materials that you already have depending on the frequency of usage is also a good thing to have. Keeping insects out is also a problem for wardrobes if your wardrobe has many unnecessary spaces it can house cockroaches or moths and a lot of other insects. Keeping your wardrobe inaccessible to insects by making designs to seal of cracks or crevices in between would be a nice way of designing that wardrobe you really want.

Your Wardrobe – Get the Perfect Wardrobe On a Budget

wardrobes
Sacha Tarkovsky asked:

Unless you’re Beyonce Knowles or, Victoria Beckham then your wardrobe will be less about designer labels and more about a style to suit your budget and lifestyle.

Your wardrobe should be an extension of your personality, by keeping in mind the following basic principles you can have the perfect wardrobe on a budget that reflects your style.

1. Be realistic about your body type

No one is perfect so be honest with yourself about your shape and size.

Before you go out shopping have an honest overall picture of your body shape and proportion in relation to the length and width of your torso, arms, legs, waist etc.

Think about the areas you will want to accentuate and those you will want to disguise.

Squeezing into clothes a size too small, does not make you look smaller, it makes you look like you’ve squeezed into a size too small. Wear clothes that fit properly!

2. Don’t be a slave to fashion

Just because it’s in the shops does not mean it is for you.

This point cannot be stressed enough. While we understand the pressure to fit in and wear what everyone else is wearing, you will only ever be fashionable if you look attractive in what you are wearing.

3. Choose colors that flatter

Experiment with different colored clothing and see the effect it has on your skin.

The colors you choose can make a huge difference to whether you look healthy and vibrant or tired and washed out.

If you are pale then you should be particularly mindful of this and be careful of yellows, oranges, greys or browns.

Building your wardrobe on a budget

Now you know how to wear your clothes, what does your wardrobe need to ensure you can step out looking perfect in all seasons.

The key to the perfect wardrobe on a budget is to mix and match. By including the following base items in your wardrobe, you should have an ample selection of outfits for all occasions.

Pants:

2 pair of evening pants 3 pairs of work pants 2 pairs of casual pants

Skirts:

2 skirt for evenings or social events 2 skirts for work 1 skirt for casual wear

Tops:

One week’s worth of work tops/blouses 2 casual weekend tops and 2 t-shirt tops 2 jumpers/cardigans 4 evening tops

Dresses:

One little black dress

Jackets/Coats:

2 Blazers or suit jackets for work 1 casual jacket for weekend or fun 1 evening jacket or wrap 1 heavyweight coat

Shoes:

2 pair of evening shoes 1 pair of stylish boots for winter or sandals for summer 2 pairs of work shoes in black, brown or navy depending on your base color) 1 pair of black, brown or navy casual or walking shoes 1 pair of tennis shoes (sneakers)

By including these base pieces, your wardrobe will be flexible and easy to mix and match.

Choose base colors that complement each other then not only will your wardrobe appear larger than it is, but it will also be suitable all season round and in the colder months you will be able to wear your clothing in layers.

By ensuring your wardrobe has a good base, and ensuring any items you add are selected with care and attention, your wardrobe on a budget will be perfect for a long time.

Selecting the Perfect Oak Wardrobe

wardrobes
jamiehanson asked:

Living in a city means that you need to carry yourself well and wear good clothes and also look smart and better than the person next to you. For this, what would we require is a good wardrobe to keep all the clothes in one place and how does one find a good wardrobe! Simple, build one for yourself according to your own requirements! An oak wardrobe is the best solution for all the requirements because the oak furniture is a king if all times and offers the best any wood was to offer. So we shall see how having an oak wardrobe is the best thing to have. A lot of readymade oak wardrobes are available in the market, but they serve little purpose, because a wardrobe is a personal thing and everyone’s needs are different and so a general wardrobe would not be the answer. You should always opt for a custom made oak wardrobe and this decision would be the life maker as because you would never ever have to depend on things that fail or give way at the last moment. Oak is a steady crusader and always up to the mark and will never ever disappoint you. Oak furniture is the best in the business and an oak wardrobe is no exception. ‘The wardrobe is as good as the clothes inside’ is a term of the past, in today’s fast paced world, you need to have the exteriors as well as the interior up to the mark otherwise you can be considered out dated. So the oak wardrobe is the answer – it is stylish, easy to procure and comes in various colors. But these advantages are secondary; the primary advantage is that an oak wardrobe will outlast the clothes inside and can be used by generations. The oak wardrobe, because it is customized, comes in all sizes and shapes. For the executive class, it can be fitted with long vertical spaces to accommodate the suits and the ties and also be fitted with the vanity table on the inside of the wardrobe to make it easier for the women. The best part of an oak wardrobe is that you can fit it with anything and everything you want and the wardrobe will not suffer in the quality, or for the regular and average user, you can have it fitted with some big shelves and some horizontal shelves and also have a separate section for the footwear. But always remember that oak wardrobe will help you only if you allow it to, and unnecessary divisions will make the wardrobe look odd, so plan it out properly if you want the inside to be useful and look decent also. Oak wardrobe has so many more advantages that it is impossible to tell you about them all, it is like you have to experience it yourself to get the hang of it. So go ahead and buy an oak wardrobe and compliment it with more oak furniture and you will never ever complain about anything and love the compliments that would be showered on you.
